The piece
A 10-metre string of 100 LEDs on bendable copper wire that holds whatever shape you give it — an arch, a mirror frame, the backdrop behind the bride's throne — rather than just lying where you put it. It runs on USB, off a phone charger or a power bank set behind the decor, so there is no battery box to reopen in the middle of the tasdira. The machta puts it up the night before: the backdrop, around the mirror, and the tables carrying the tyafer and the cake stands. The light colour is what makes it match the room — warm white for an ivory-and-gold evening, multicolour for a henna night.
