The piece
Six cloths embroidered in gold or silver metal thread, fetla or medjboud work, on a velvet or satin ground, with scalloped, braided or fringed edges. They dress the siniya before the guests arrive: the henna, the jewellery, the bottles and the sugared almonds sit on fabric, not on bare acrylic. It is the cloth the photographs actually see — the tray is only what holds it up — and that is why a machta buys a second and a third colour: the bride changes three times or more, and the trays are redressed for every outfit of the tasdira.
