The piece
The large-bead 33: 33 hand-turned kuka beads of 10 mm, in a veined honey tone, that fill the hand. Three rounds make the 99. It ends in a long imame, then a braided cord with three beads and an end piece, all kuka, no metal. Kuka is the very hard shell of a palm seed: it polishes like wood, keeps its veining and small natural marks, and darkens with use. For a man who keeps his misbaha in his hand, as a groom or Eid gift. Not gold, not amber, not stone: kuka, a plant material.
