The piece
A bracelet and a ring joined by a chain that runs across the back of the hand, sold as a pair because both hands are dressed alike. Plated brass, an adjustable 16 to 20 cm wrist fit and an open ring. The trade has no old Algerian name for this piece: it is called a chaîne de main, or a bracelet-bague. The machta puts it on among the last gestures, after the henna, on the back of the hand where the henna itself reads, before the bride is seated on the throne.
