The piece
The mahzma fastens at the waist over the outfit — karakou, gandoura fergani, blouza, caftan — and it is what gives the traditional silhouette its line. This one is plated brass, articulated links, adjustable over roughly 65 to 100 cm on an extender chain: the version a machta can bring out for every bride, where the mahzmat el-louiz built from gold coins is prepared over years within a single family. At 180 g it is at traditional scale, not a fashion waist chain. It is closed last, once the garment is settled, before the bride walks out — and opened first at the next change.
