The piece
The tikka is a single chain laid along the parting, with a drop — the damaa — falling at the centre of the forehead. Plated copper or brass alloy, set rhinestones, and a crystal or zirconia drop. It is neither a khit errouh nor the traditional jbin: those two span the width of the forehead, while the tikka sits on the parting. It belongs to the Indian change of the tasdira, the sari one — the machta clips it into the hair just behind the parting, and brings it out on its own with an evening gown when the bride wants a dressed forehead without the weight of a khit errouh.
